Apple Prepares to Take On Blackberry with 2.0 Update for iPhone
With the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference slated to kick off this coming Monday, Apple is ready to take on the Blackberry with the debut of its 2.0 software update for the iPhone, as well as the much rumored unveiling of a new 3G iPhone. Although a new iPhone model is still a rumor, until at least there is an official announcement, the iPhone 2.0 software update is expected to be ready to go, offering iPhone users new features to meet and exceed the demands of its customers.First shown in March, the software update will include increased security and direct support of Exchange, two things the business sector has been wanting since the device debuted. Another feature that holds promise is the addition of the new Apple App Store, a place for users to download third-party applications directly to the iPhone, adding even more function to the device than it already has. So, what does this mean for the Blackberry, which up until now pretty much had the lock on the business crowd? It means that the iPhone will no longer be saddled with the lack of business features many complained about. With the new update, and new applications from third-party companies, the iPhone opens up to an entirely new audience, and positions Apple to come that much closer to reaching the iPhone sales goal of 10 million units this year. Recent polls have reportedly stated that many people wishing to purchase an iPhone have only held off, because of its inability to fully function as business device, like the Blackberry, and the inability of the iPhone to utilize the 3G network instead of the current EDGE network. Come this Monday both complaints should be resolved, and instead of wondering if the new Blackberry Bold will be the iPhone killer, the new iPhone update(s) may make the iPhone the Blackberry killer instead. Only time will tell, but with the new software update, the iPhone is positioned to convert many Blackberry customers to its platform, as well as new customers who have been waiting for a significant change to the device before considering a purchase.
