Apple CEO Steve Jobs Ends Rumors and Speculation About His Health

Apple CEO Steve Jobs released a public letter on January 5th, 2009, to put an end to the endless rumors and speculation about his health. Reporting wild speculation, rather than fact, for months on end, many media outlets have been placing Jobs on his deathbed, and even going so far as to cover false reports of Jobs having a serious heart attack, using the guise of what it would mean for Apple as the reason for releasing the tabloid reports. Despite the fact that Apple and Jobs have denied the false stories, with Jobs even poking fun at the rumors at a recent Apple event, the speculation continued, prompting Jobs to publically release a statement citing a hormone imbalance, which has been robbing his body of the proteins it needs to be healthy, as the reason for his weight loss. Jobs went on to say that the condition is treatable, and that he is already undergoing treatment to correct the problem.
From Jobs' letter, it is clear that he would rather have kept the private matter of his health a private matter, as it should be, but felt forced to have to disclose his health issues publically, to put an end to speculation, so he can recover in peace. Jobs having to do that says a lot about the current state of the media in general (none of it good), where tabloid style reporting is being passed off as true journalism, and a person trying to recover from an illness is forced to make their private information public, just to appease those who are circling them, waiting and hoping for the worst. Now that Jobs has released a public statement, maybe the constant speculation about his health can be put to an end. Though Jobs didn't want to make his health issues public, the release of his letter was a good move on his part, to end the rumors, and we wish him a quick recovery.
