CES 2010 - Las Vegas Convention Center
HD quality 3-D television broadcasts, 3-D gaming, and 3-D movies right in your home. It was the major focus of just about all of the leading electronics manufacturers, as they came to the Consumer Electronics Show, CES 2010, to show off the latest in what we can expect to see in our homes this coming year and beyond.
DIRECTV Live HD-3D on Panasonic 3D Television
With the popularity of 3-D movies, such as the blockbuster hit Avatar from director James Cameron, becoming more mainstream, the question of how do you get the same experience from your home theater setup that you had in the movie theater when your favorite film comes out on Blu-ray or on-demand TV was in need of an answer. Coming later this year, it may be just as easy as heading out to your favorite local electronics store, and buying a new television and Blu-ray player that will make viewing a 3-D movie in your home just as enjoyable as seeing it on the big screen.
Sony 3-D Gaming
Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Sony, and others had plenty to show those in attendance at this year’s CES, and the quality of the video being displayed was outstanding. Though release dates and pricing were not definite, many of the companies fully expect to see their new products arriving in stores beginning within the next few months. As far as pricing, you can expect to pay a premium for a television that is 3-D capable over its non-3-D equivalent. Though the new products will be more costly, it is hoped by all of the companies involved that pricing will remain within a range that keeps it affordable enough that it will be adopted quickly by consumers. With more 3-D content being produced, it could easily change the way we watch movies, television, and play video games at home if the technology catches on.
LG's NetCast
Aside from the massive push towards 3-D, CES 2010 also unveiled the growing trend of integrating Web content into televisions and other media devices, so users can watch their favorite online programs, catch up on the news that interests them, and make video calls all from the comfort of their sofa.
Skype on LGTV
Skype has already announced its integration into upcoming televisions from Panasonic and LG in 2010, allowing users to make 720p HD video calls to other Skype users around the world. With streaming content from Netflix, Vudu, and others working their way into televisions and video players as well, it is becoming easier than ever before to have all of your favorite content accessible to you without the need of a computer.
CNBC's Closing Bell at CES 2010
The media also turned out for CES again this year, with several celebrities in attendance, and many shows broadcasting from the convention floor. With so much coverage, CES has become more and more well known over the years, with many looking forward to seeing and hearing about all the things they can expect in the coming months.
Chevy Volt with OnStar Mobile Application
Mobility was also big this year, with manufacturers wanting to make it easier for consumers to not only have all of their content available to them in their homes, but while they are on the go as well. One of the places where this was most notable was in the auto sector, where manufacturers are teaming with some of the biggest technology companies to turn your car into a personal information network. With the ability to play just about an kind of media, and now the ability to make your automobile a rolling Internet hotspot, autos are becoming more important in how we keep connected while away from the home or office. Voice commands will make most functions easier and safer to use while driving, and satellite and GPS will make it easier to know where you are at any given time, where you need to go, and bring you all of the information you need along the way.
Samsung e-Book Reader
As expected, e-book readers were also a hot topic at this year's CES, with Marvell, Samsung, and others making a strong showing. With more and more e-book readers coming to market, awareness and popularity of the devices as an easy way to carry your reading material with you is growing.
Sanyo Xacti Waterproof HD Video Camera
For those that like to get away and be active outdoors, there’s no need to leave your tech gear behind. This year’s CES had new products that will let you record that run down the slopes without ever having to take your hands off the poles, or capture that school of fish in full HD while vacationing along the coast.
LG Full LED Ultra Slim - 6.9mm Thickness
HoloAD Holographic Projector Display Case
With plenty in attendance, this year’s CES didn’t disappoint, and showed that there is still plenty to look forward to in the world of tech.
